Cosmopolitan for Latinas—the twice-yearly, English-language spinoff of Cosmo that launched on April 25, held its fiesta at The Press Lounge atop Manhattan’s Ink48 Hotel.
Melissa Victorio - Advertising Manager for Cosmo for Latinas - and, one of my dear friends, was dressed up in a bright colored Bebe Dress and nude Christian Louboutin Pumps paired with her Sarah Swift Charlotte de Berry necklace. No surprise, Melissa got rave reviews of her outfit all night - and looked gorgeous, as always.
On hand were cover girl Zoë Saldaña and Super Bowl champion New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz…two fabulous Latinos, NBD.

They recently were offered the opportunity to sing our National Anthem for the Boston Celtics vs North Carolina Bobcats game! And, the next night, performed live at Rockwood Stage 2 in NYC. Check out their blog post to read more. We can’t wait to see them perform again soon!
She’s not just a designer but a business woman too!
“I think that any true entrepreneur can take the entrepreneurship specialization and tailor it to their personal goals. In the OU MBA program we have so many amazing entrepreneurial resources including professors who are running businesses when they aren’t in the classroom. Taking advantage of what these professors and this program have to offer is priceless.” - SS

Last week, I was in NYC for a whirlwind work trip. It was FANTASTIC. One of the coolest things that happened was my meeting with the fine jewelry buyer, Jodi Kaplan, at Bergdorf Goodman — the VP and merchandising manager of the first floor. Pretty much the ultimate. OMG. I was nervous but so, so excited too.
Let’s get something clear here. We all know it is CRUCIAL to wear something perfect when and if the magical day comes where you’re showing your jewelry to a Bergdorfs buyer. Explanation for men (since women usually get it): It is just like if you had an interview for Goldman Sachs. Are you really going to wear your old suit from Express Men? I don’t THINK so. You’re going to go out and buy yourself a new Jil Sander jacket. Same situation applies here.
So, a couple days before the meeting with Bergdorfs, I walked my happy ass 20 blocks to the Rag & Bone store in the West Village. Now, if you know me AT ALL, you know I am obsessed with Rag & Bone. This may or may not have been an excuse to own something R&G, but I think it’s a pretty crucial part of this designer’s wardrobe. (See above argument re: Express Men).
Walking into the store, a lovely young girl greeted me. She wasn’t busy — so I turned her into my own personal shopper. And she loved every second of it! ”We” tried on about 10 outfits, discarding sleek navy jeans with an orange tuxedo stripe in exchange for asymmetrical raw edge silk Ts … etc. It was BEYOND fun.
Ultimately, I decided to go with a very feminine, 1920s-esque drop-waist dress. All off-white silk with black trim in an asymmetrical pattern … it was perfect and highlighted the jewelry perfectly. Dressed with my thick foldover suede Ugg ankle boots, thin black leather jacket and a black tight, I looked KILLER when I finally set off on my day to meet Jodi. Oh, and Sarah Swift 1920’s inspired Cinxia necklace, of course.
And what an amazing day it was. The Bergdorf offices are on gorgeous Madison Avenue — just one block over from the 5th avenue store. I have loved Bergdorfs since I first heard about it. When was that? Perhaps, in the 90’s. Or, it could have been when I read “Bergdorf Blondes” by Candace Bushnell. Maybe even in a magazine. Who knows. I only know it’s like a mecca for girls like me and Ryan. I met Jodi and instantly we hit it off. She loves jewelry and she has a business mind … I relate. We spent an hour and 45 minutes laughing and talking and trying on jewelry. At one point she even called in another of her buyers to see. I was on cloud 9.
Although Jodi isn’t the 5th Floor fashion jewelry buyer, she got my info to give to that counterpart. She told me she was “very impressed” and that I should be “very proud of myself.” This is a woman who looks at $20,000 jewelry every day and says no more than she says yes. What a compliment.
Moral of the Story: Look out for us. We plan to be in Bergdorfs SOMEDAY. Hopefully sooner than later as I know there’s a place for our jewelry there. They could definitely use a line like us to build a bridge to the first floor customer that feels like treating herself to something cool, special, one-of-a-kind, but not so expensive as diamonds and gold.
We are 5th floor prices for a 1st floor customer. And if you love Bergdorfs as much as we do, you know EXACTLY what that means!
